Public Meeting – Santa Barbara County/Chumash Public Meeting on “Tentative” Camp 4 Agreement, THIS MONDAY, September 25, 5:30 PM
Next Monday, September 25, our community has an opportunity to make our voice heard on Camp 4. When we take advantage of these opportunities to show up, we send a clear message to the politicians that we care about the future of Santa Ynez Valley.
At this meeting, Santa Barbara County and the Chumash Tribe are set to reveal their “tentative agreement” to address land use on Camp 4 at that meeting. The meeting will take place Monday in Los Olivos at the Saint Marks in the Valley Episcopal Church (Map) and will start at 5:30 PM.
While we don’t have the specifics and details on a Chumash/County agreement, it is important that the community show up to learn about the elements of the agreement. Informed democracies are always the most effective.
This agreement as noted previously is tentative and still must be considered and adopted by our representatives on the Board of Supervisors at some point in the future. We need to know what is in this agreement and whether it protects the Santa Ynez Valley for generations to come. We also need to ensure that our interests and rights are factored into and respected by this agreement and hold our elected officials accountable if it does not.
For your information, last week, the Santa Ynez Valley Coalition sent a letter to Supervisors, spelling out the three principles that any agreement with the Chumash must contain for it to preserve the character of the Santa Ynez Valley.
- Development on Camp 4 must comply with County land plans and regulations.
- The agreement must be enforceable.
- The agreement must be universal in scope addressing the other Chumash land holdings in the Santa Ynez Valley.
We hope that you will be able to attend. If you can not attend in person, please email us your statement and we will ensure that it is included in the record for the meeting.
